Billy Amendola - Modern Drummer
"Rayford Griffin (MD Fest 1994) picked the perfect name for this recording. Griffin’s playing is not only cool, it’s smooth, with just enough chops to remind us what a powerful player he iswhen he needs to be. Besides drumming, writing, and producing, Ray handles lead vocals on the title track and on "All That" (featuring Stanley Clarke on bass). Other guests who stop by include Gerald Albright, Brandon Fields, Walt Fowler, George Duke, Munyungo Jackson, and Branford Marsalis. If smooth jazz with killer drumming is your bag, Rebirth Of The Cool is an uplifting musical experience by one very cool drummer". Rating: 8
Sandy Shore - SmoothJazz.com
Rayford stretches out on songs, like "Foláke" and "Coffee" showcasing his drumming prowess. It is truly unimaginable that this is an independent debut release... It's wellrounded, interesting, rich and deep. Something for everyone. In a little time off the road from touring with the likes of Michael Jackson, Anita Baker, Bette Midler, Kenny G, Manhattan Transfer, the list goes on, Rayford turned out one of the best albums of the year.
A. Scott Galloway - Urban Network Magazine
"The CD is a decidedly personal and contemporary take on Rayford's appreciation of tradition"
HBH - Smooth Jazz News - Germany
"Oh, would all Smooth Jazz pieces on the music market be as excellent as In Your Eyes. What an ease, what a perfection. Dwight Sills accomplishes true marvels on his guitar and Rayford is the god of drums."
Jeff Charney - Contemporary Jazz
"The title track, Rebirth of The Cool, kicks off the CD. It is a hipster style R&Bish vocal track with Griffin showing that he has a smooth voice. It's extremely snappy and I had to play it on my radio show immediately."
